On behalf of Morris & Co, he completed his first tapestry in 1879 - the Acanthus and Vine tapestry which Morris later nicknamed 'The Cabbage and Vine'. It was inspired by the Flemish verdure tapestries produced during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
